Hair transplant is a procedure in which our surgeon “Dr. Swaroop Singh Gambhir” takes hair from the donor site most commonly from the scalp or any other body part and moves to a bald or balding part of the scalp or another part of the body which is called the ‘recipient site’.This procedure can be used to restore eyelashes, eyebrows, beard, chest & pubic hairs other than scalp hairs. There are 2 different techniques for harvesting hair follicles. Both procedures have their own advantages and disadvantages. The 2 methods to remove the grafts are:-

Follicular unit transplantation (FUT)
Follicular unit extraction (FUE)

In FUT techniques, a strip of scalp hairs is cut from the back side of the scalp which is known as a permanent hair zone area. The strip is taken in such a way that there is no deficit of any sensation or any visible marks. Once the strip is out the defect is closed in layers so that we have good opposition of margin. The strip is dissected into individual grafts the bulb on it contains fat,which is good for holding and also the quality of hair grown is better in FUT . All the procedure is done under magnification and maintaining the cold and moist environment to the follicles. In FUE techniques, individual follicular units are removed from the back side of scalp i.e. permanent hair zone. In this tiny bunches of size 0.6 mm to 1.0 mm in diameter are used. The area is first trimmed to 1mm sized hairs with trimmer so that we can see the direction of the hairs. The area is then infiltrated with chilled saline and distended so that the space between each hair follicle is increased and homeostasis is achieved with the punch the follicles and dissected and then by traction taken out. Both techniques have the same procedure for placing hair grafts to the recipient area. During this procedure, Dr. Gambhir will make tiny holes at the recipient site with a needle. After that, each graft will be delicately placed one by one with holes.
